This year we started two new courses, both about digital interfaces and narratives, one at Bauer and one at the Raffles in Milan. To break the embarrassing situation of being in a class, we decided that the best way to do it is getting weird together.
We found or came up with games to revive our zoomer students, which, as you all know by now, are ageing at an alarming rate.
If you are also worried and afraid of ageing quickly, these games are here for you.
1. The Wiki Word Game
Players sit in a random position, each with her or his own phone. One random player selects a random yet specific word.
All players open a random page (by starting from Wikipedia’s navigation menu).
From that random page, their goal is to arrive at the Wiki page of the elected random word, jumping from one hyperlink to another.
Winner: the faster player arriving at the elected random word page.
Prize: showing to the other players the path in reverse.
2. The Remember that Thingo Game
One random player elects a random character or pop fantasy character of any kind.
Someone that everybody knows for sure. Let’s say Homer Simpson.
The thing with the thingo game is that, even if you are sure that you know how Homer Simpson is shaped, let’s see if you will be able to draw him in a good way.
Winner: the drawing that most resembles the character wins.
Prize: the most poorly drawn deformed, and ridiculous character, therefore the most beautiful one, goes to the infamous winner.
Real moral winner: the player of the most poorly drawn deformed, and ridiculous character.
3. Files Russian Roulette Game
Players sit in a circle, each with his or her own computer.
Everyone passes their computer to the person next to them, who is allowed to delete any file of his or her choice. The game ends after one full round. We found the game in the book Wasting Time on the Internet by Kenneth Goldsmith.
Winner: everybody wins, except for very unlucky ones.
Prize: learning that in life, you can get rid of almost all your files and be fine anyway.
Keanue Reeves level winner: who at the end of the round empties her or his own bin without looking.
4. Rapaponte or The Multiple Multiplication Game
Players sit in a circle, with a single piece of paper and a pen. The first random player draws a grid on it. The piece of paper is passed from player to player. Players, who can draw on it in turn, fill the first horizontal row and the first vertical row of the grid. Once the two rows are filled, the intersections begin.
The intersections can be aesthetic or conceptual in nature, for example: a light bulb and a car can result in a light bulb-shaped car (lame) or a Tesla.
A scissor and a sofa, can result in half of the sofa (easy but elegant solution) or in a scissor-shaped sofa, which by the way, is how many Salone del Mobile designers get their ideas nowadays (also lame).
Our dear friends and geniuses Steiner&Wolinska taught us the game.
Winner: the most audacious match on acclamation of the other players.
Prize: the piece of paper on which the infallible matrix was drawn.
